WEEK 1 CHAMPS
👑 LA + CHLOË
WEEK 1 SUCKERS
🤪 Brenden + Mike
Whether you’re riding high on a blowout win or licking your wounds after a tough loss, there’s plenty to dissect, and it’s only just beginning.
Based on how the first week went, here are some adjustments to consider. Some of you may not want to make moves right this second, but others may need to consider some switch-ups asap.
Lowryour Expectations
- Adjustments: To stay competitive, you’ll need more firepower (and set your lineup). Think of adding a volume scorer who can get to the line often, ideally someone with good efficiency to fit your current strengths. A scoring guard or a high-usage wing could be the answer to lift your point totals without sacrificing your reliable FG%.
I Got A Harden
- Adjustments: Keep pouring it on offense, but consider bringing in a shot-blocker or two to shore up the paint. You don’t need to overhaul the roster, just find one or two players who can add a defensive edge. With that balance, you’ll be a real problem for anyone in the league.
LA’s Top Men
- Adjustments: You’re off to a great start, so it’s all about fine-tuning. Adding a rebounder who doesn’t drain your FG% would make you even tougher to beat. You’ve got the balance and efficiency; now make sure no one can touch you in those hustle categories either.
Flat Earthers
- Adjustments: It’s about finding more consistent scoring without losing your efficiency. Consider targeting an under-the-radar scorer who can chip in across multiple stats. A reliable wing or versatile forward could give you the bump you need. Don’t panic yet—it’s just Week 1.
Chloë’s Champion Team
- Adjustments: To really lock things down, add a guard who can rack up steals. It’s a minor tweak, but if you’re going to run the table, you might as well shore up those smaller categories. With your current balance and efficiency, a few more takeaways could make you near-invincible.
GetSome
- Adjustments: It’s time to get back to basics. Look for efficient shooters who can help stabilize your FG% and players who can help on the boards. A reliable big man with a good shooting touch would do wonders. You don’t need flashy players—focus on consistency, and you’ll start picking up wins.
Too Hot For Kool Aid
- Adjustments: Go find yourself a sharpshooter or two. Your defense is elite, so don’t worry about losing a bit there if it means you’re adding some offensive juice. A 3-point specialist or a reliable scorer with good FG% would give you the balance you need to take on any team in the league.
Mary Gets Bucketzz
- Adjustments: You don’t need to mess with your shooters—keep those threes coming. But consider adding a forward or center who can muscle down low. You don’t need to overhaul the whole roster, but one or two guys who can bring rebounding and rim protection would give you the balance to compete across the board.
General Tips for All Managers
- Stay Active on the Waiver Wire: It’s early, and breakout players are still emerging. Keep an eye out for role players stepping up due to injuries or lineup shifts—they’re gold in fantasy.
- Know Your Opponent: Tailor your lineups to each week’s matchup. Look at game distribution. If you’re up against a team that dominates certain categories, it may make sense to punt one of them to stream in a specialist so you can focus on winning where you have the advantage.
- Be Open to Trades: If you spot a trend in your team’s strengths and weaknesses, consider proposing a trade. A well-timed trade could shore up your roster and give you an edge as the season progresses.

RISERS & FALLERS (link to og poster):
Risers
F Jonathan Kuminga
Golden State Warriors
Head coach Steve Kerr described Curry’s ankle injury as a “mild or moderate” sprain. It’s the NBA, and it’s 2024—it’d be surprising to see Curry not miss any time. If he does, Kuminga is a must-add if any impatient fantasy GM cut bait after a slow start.
Andrew Wiggins, Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Brandin Podziemski are worth a look, too, but it stands to reason that Kuminga would make the biggest leap from a fantasy perspective.
F Gradey Dick
Toronto Raptors
Dick is on the rise for the short-handed Raptors. The unfortunately-named swingman averaged 16.3 points and hit 2.3 of 6.3 threes per game (36.8 percent) in his first three games this season while hitting all eight of his free throw attempts.
The Raptors have been dealing with injuries already, including Barrett, Quickley and Kelly Olynyk, who hasn’t played yet. As long as Toronto is missing guys, Dick should continue to elevate.
G Scotty Pippen Jr.
Memphis Grizzlies
Scottie Pippen’s son is good. The younger Pip has averaged 10 points, 7.7 assists, 3.7 boards and 1.7 steals in three games off the bench. Off the bench! Four games this week. Continue to ride the hot streak.
G Jordan Hawkins
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pels are down DeJounte, so Hawkins will get an extended look. He is averaging close to 20 points per game already, and while he’s been weak in the assists department, he’s been a revelation in the young season and will get opportunities in the short term.
Honorable Mentions:
- G/F Christian Braun – Denver Nuggets
- F Julian Champagnie – San Antonio Spurs
- G/F Buddy Hield – Golden State Warriors
- F Andrew Wiggins – Golden State Warriors
- G/F Caris LeVert – Cleveland Cavaliers
Fallers:
C Andre Drummond
Philadelphia 76ers
A popular stream last week, Andre Drummond has just two games this week. And while he could fill up the stat sheet, he’ll be tough to keep around with the light schedule in shallow leagues, especially since you only see him Wednesday or Saturday.
Joel Embiid will play at some point, though as of this writing, no one knows when. Given that we know he’ll take time off regardless, Drummond is restorable in non-shallow leagues—his stock just takes a hit this week and will anytime Embiid is active.
G Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets
Your curiosities aren’t unwarranted, and he could be a stream given the four-game week, but no, it doesn’t appear that that Ben Simmons will be back yet, if ever again.
Simmons has taken 12 field goal attempts in 72 minutes — that’s one shot every six minutes. The rebounds and assists aren’t bad, but if his stocks are moderate, as they have been since he left his peak, then he’s a tough hold in non-deep leagues, especially given the lack of scoring, which has been the case for three years.
G/F Amen Thompson
Houston Rockets
Houston has too many mouths to feed, and until they firmly figure it out — or at least provide extended opportunities for Amen Thompson to emerge as many of us who snagged him late in drafts hope — it’s worrisome.
He’s too talented to drop, especially this early, but averages rounded up to 8-5-2 with one stock in three games won’t cut it, and neither will 22 minutes per game.
Honorable Mentions:
- G Jrue Holiday – Boston Celtics
- F Herb Jones – New Orleans Pelicans
- F Tobias Harris – Detroit Pistons
This season is still young
and a couple of smart moves now could pay off big down the line. Some teams came out swinging, while others had work to do, but everyone’s got a shot to adjust and make a run.
Good luck in Week 2, bitches.
